Francisco José Tinahones Madueño is the Scientific Director of IBIMA and Principal Investigator/Manager at the Institute. Chief of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Department at the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital of Málaga. Full Professor of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Málaga. President of the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity (SEEDO). Clinical Medicine and Epidemiology Coordinator at the State Research Agency. Member of the Scientific Committee at CIBERobn.
Author of more than 370 original publications in indexed, peer-reviewed medical journals. Cumulative impact index of publications of more than 2000. Principal Investigator for more than 35 competitive public projects (national and European) and of more than 100 clinical trials in the areas of diabetes and obesity. Supervisor of more than 27 doctoral theses. National Award for the best group trajectory from the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN).
Dr Valdivielso Felices is the Deputy Scientific Director of IBIMA and Principal Investigator/Manager at the Institute. He is also Chief of the Internal Medicine Department at the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital, Professor at the Internal Medicine and Dermatology Department at the University of Málaga, and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Málaga.
In addition, Dr Felices is President of the Spanish Arteriosclerosis Society, member of MC, COST Action CA 16115 (EurosoftCalNet), and Principal Investigator/Manager of the ‘Lipids and Arteriosclerosis Laboratory’ research groups of the CIMES at the University of Málaga, PAIDI CTS-159, and the ‘Arteriosclerosis, Cardiovascular Prevention, and Metabolism’ research group at IBIMA. He has supervised a total of 13 doctoral theses and is the Principal Investigator on 4 competitive research projects. He has more than one hundred scientific publications in indexed journals.

Dr Hernández Marrero is Deputy Scientific Director at IBIMA and Principal Investigator/Manager at the Institute as well as Director of the Nephrology Clinical Management Unit at the Regional University Hospital of Málaga and Full Professor of the Internal Medicine and Dermatology Department at the University of Málaga.
He is Coordinator of the Renal Transplant Programme for the Renal Research Network (REDINRED) and President of the Spanish Transplantation Society. He currently holds the position of Principal Investigator/Manager for the REDINREN RD16/0009/0006, PAIDI CTS-663, and IBIMA’s ‘Nephrology and Renal Transplantation’ research groups.
Furthermore, he is currently an evaluator for health and clinical research projects for the Carlos III Institute of Health as well as for research projects for the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia. He has supervised a total of 13 doctoral theses and is the Principal Investigator on 14 competitive research projects.
He has more than 250 scientific publications in indexed journals, is a co-editor of four books, and is the author/co-author of more than 43 book chapters. Lastly, he forms part of the scientific committees of the Spanish Transplantation Society and of the Spanish Nephrology Society.
José Miguel Guzmán is the Managing Director of the Biomedical Research Institute of Málaga (IBIMA) and of the Andalusian Public Foundation for Health and Biomedicine Research in Málaga (FIMABIS).
He earned a degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Granada in 1999. In the following years, he completed his residency, specialising in Hospital Pharmacy at the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital of Málaga. During this time, he earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Málaga and completed a sabbatical at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine with a specialisation in Pharmacoeconomics.
He later completed a Master’s Degree in Health Economics and Management of Healthcare Organisations from the Andalusian School of Public Health and enrolled in an Executive MBA at the University of Navarre’s IESE Business School. In 2012, he graduated with first class honours from the Public Health and Prevention doctoral degree programme of the University of Málaga’s Faculty of Medicine.
He has extensive experience as a Specialist Physician in the Hospital Pharmacy Department and in healthcare management, having worked in management positions as a Project Manager and Quality Manager at the Marina Salud Hospital (Alicante).
From 2011 to May 2018, he was in charge of management for the Biomedical Research Institute of Córdoba (IMIBIC), managing research and innovation at that centre.
