Method to predict or diagnose rheumatoid arthritis development.

  • Diagnosis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a degenerative inflammatory chronic systemic disease and an autoimmune disease. RA produce articular damage and bone erosion, which decrease life quality and life expectancy. This process could start in mucous membrane and be mediated by microbiota.
AR diagnose is very complicated in the early stage, because first symptoms are very similar to other chronic inflammatory autoimmune diseases. So, currently, there is not any method for early diagnose.
To solve this problem, the researcher group has identified a specific microbiota profile for RA patients. Thanks to this discovery, the microbiota study, and especially microbiological population which are different between RA patients and healthy patients, could be used as biomarkers of RA. These biomarkers could be useful in the RA and other inflammatory autoimmune disease diagnose, or in the severity assessment of the disease. For this aimed is necessary to compare the measurement of these biomarkers with the levels stablished by researchers.
Moreover, this proposal includes the developed possibility of a commercial kit for inflammatory autoimmune disease diagnose, and new probiotics, prebiotics or nutraceutical compounds.
