ABSTRACT

Multiple sclerosis (MS) can be understood as an interplay of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration, whereas the latter is the pathological substrate that causes major disability in advanced multiple sclerosis. Thus, beyond immunomodulatory treatments, there is an urgent need for neuroprotective therapeutics to ameliorate neurodegenerative processes and to delay disability progression in MS.
