The Biomedical Research Institute of Málaga and Nanomedicine Platform (IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND) is configured as a multidisciplinary biomedical research space involving the Regional University Hospitals of Málaga and Virgen de la Victoria, which form its core, along with Primary Care services associated with these centers. Together with the University of Málaga, IBIMA integrates and harmonizes basic, clinical, and public health research, promoting translational research for a better transfer of scientific advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the most prevalent health issues at regional, national, and global levels.

IBIMA was established on March 19, 2012, under an agreement signed between the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, and Science, the Andalusian Health Service, and the Public Andalusian Foundation for Biomedical Research and Health in Málaga. Additionally, it is one of more than 30 accredited institutes in Spain for health research by the Carlos III Health Institute
