Francisco José Tinahones Madueño is the Scientific Director of IBIMA and Principal Investigator/Manager at the Institute. Chief of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Department at the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital of Málaga. Full Professor of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Málaga. Former President of the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity (SEEDO). Clinical Medicine and Epidemiology Coordinator at the State Research Agency. Member of the Scientific Committee at CIBERobn.
Author of more than 775 original publications in indexed, peer-reviewed medical journals. Cumulative impact index of publications of more than 30.000. Principal Investigator for more than 35 competitive public projects (national and European) and of more than 120 clinical trials in the areas of diabetes and obesity. Supervisor of more than 30 doctoral theses. National Award for the best group trajectory from the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN). SEEDO Gold Medal.
Since July 2019, he belongs to the Advisory Committee of the General Secretary for Research of the Ministry of Health of the Regional Government of Andalusia
Raúl J. Andrade Bellido is Deputy Scientific Director of IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND and Lead Researcher of the institute’s consolidated group D-05 - ‘Hepatogastroenterology, Pharmacology, and Translational Clinical Therapeutics.’ He is a Full Professor and Director of the Department of Medicine at the University of Málaga School of Medicine and Chief of the Gastroenterology Department of the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital in Málaga.
In addition, he is Head of the Spanish Group for the Study of Drug-Induced Liver Injury (Spanish DILI Registry), Coordinator of the Latin American Network of Drug-Induced Liver Injury (SLATINDILI), and also of the Prospective European Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network (Pro-Euro DILI Registry). Chair of COST Action CA17112 - Prospective European Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network (PRO-EURO DILI NET) and of the European Association for the Study of the Liver Drug and Herbal & Dietary Supplement-Induced Liver Injury (EASL DHILI) Consortium. Horizon 2020. Framework Programme (European Union).
He has published more than 300 articles in indexed and peer-reviewed journals and 43 book chapters. It has an H-index of 64 and a total of 17,223 citations. Thirty-five of his publications have been cited more than 100 times and 72 of his publications have been cited more than 50 times. He has been a speaker at more than 150 international and national meetings..
He has served as principal investigator for more than 30 national and international public competitive projects and more than 20 clinical trials in the last five years. He is an associate editor of Liver International (Q1) and a member of the editorial board of: Hepatology (2012–2016) (D1), Journal of Hepatology (2020–2023) (D1), and Frontiers in Pharmacology (Q1). He ranks second among world experts in “Chemical and Drug-Induced Liver Injury,” which provides an objective ranking of researchers and institutions based on their mastery of more than 29,000 biomedical topics. He has supervised 25 doctoral theses (three with a European mention).
Javier Márquez is the deputy scientific director of the IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND Institute and lead researcher of Group B-07: “Canceromics” at the Institute. Dr. Márquez is a full professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Málaga and scientific manager of the Proteomics Research Support Services since 2007. He completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri - Kansas City in the United States of America from 1987 to 1989 and was a visiting professor at Brandeis University in Boston, United States of America, at Harvard Medical school in Cambridge, United States of America, and at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. He is the author of more than 110 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed, indexed journals with more than 5,200 citations and an h-index of 41. He is the principal investigator on more than 25 national and international competitive public projects.
Other indicators of the quality of his scientific production include six uninterrupted six-year terms in research since 1984, one six-year term in transfer, and 14 doctoral theses directed. He is a member of the editorial review boards for the journals Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience and CANCERS. As part of his teaching work, he has taught courses on biochemistry and molecular biology at the UMA Faculty of Sciences for biology, environmental sciences, chemistry, and biochemistry undergraduate degrees since 1988. Furthermore, he has participated in numerous doctoral programs at the UMA and the International University of Andalusia (UNIA, for its initials in Spanish). He currently serves as coordinator for a course in the Master’s Degree in Advanced Biotechnology at the UMA.
Notable among his research evaluation work is his role as expert assessor for the Life Sciences speech for the European Union’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, Horizon 2020, and Horizon Europe excellence programs since 2003. He is an assessor for research projects for the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Innovation, and the National Agency for Evaluation and Futurology (ANEP, for its initials in Spanish). He is a member of the review board for Ramón y Cajal postdoctoral contracts in biomedicine, an assessor for research projects and grants for the Board of Life Sciences of the Andalusia Regional Government, and an expert assessor for the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion of Argentina, the Fund for Scientific and Technological Research (FONCYT, for its initials in Spanish), and the National Science Centre of Krakow, Poland
José Miguel Guzmán is Managing Director of IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND and the Andalusian Public Foundation for Biomedical and Health Research in Malaga (FIMABIS). He graduated in 1999 from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Granada and during the following years he completed his residency specialising in Hospital Pharmacy at the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital in Malaga. During this time, she obtained a degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Malaga and spent time at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine specialising in Pharmacoeconomics.
He later completed a Master’s Degree in Health Economics and Management of Healthcare Organisations from the Andalusian School of Public Health and enrolled in an Executive MBA at the University of Navarre’s IESE Business School. In 2012, he graduated with first class honours from the Public Health and Prevention doctoral degree programme of the University of Málaga's Faculty of Medicine.
He has extensive experience as a Specialist Physician in the Hospital Pharmacy Department and in healthcare management, having worked in management positions as a Project Manager and Quality Manager at the Marina Salud Hospital (Alicante).
From 2011 to May 2018, he was in charge of management for the Biomedical Research Institute of Córdoba (IMIBIC), managing research and innovation at that centre
