- This initiative, promoted by the Andalusian Society of Medical Oncology (SAOM) with the collaboration of Pfizer, consists of a grant of 15,000 euros for the design and refurbishment of these facilities, so that they become a more comfortable environment adapted to the needs and conditions of greater vulnerability of cancer patients and their families.

The auditorium of the Virgen de La Victoria University Hospital in Malaga today hosted the presentation of the first grant of the ‘Espacio SPERantia’ Project, an initiative promoted by the Andalusian Society of Medical Oncology (SAOM), with the support of Pfizer, through which the waiting room of the Medical Oncology service of the hospital in Malaga will be humanised and transformed into a more comfortable, adapted and sensitive space for the care of cancer patients and their families.

As explained by the president of the SAOM, Dr. Ana Laura Ortega, this initiative is the first SAOM grant for the humanisation of waiting rooms in medical oncology services in Andalusia. Moreover, at times that are very special, such as the diagnosis of their illness, and when it is appreciated that they have a warm, intimate and suitable environment for all of this’.
The winning project of this first grant of the ‘Espacio SPERantia’ Project was for the application submitted for the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital by Dr. Javier García Corbacho, head of the Phase I Clinical Trials Unit of IBIMA, and the Regional and Virgen de la Victoria University Hospitals in Malaga, who received the grant from Francisco Javier Vázquez Granado.
